MAY 2008

Golden start for new Adventure Bootcamp

Olympian Daley Thompson is star guest on opening day of new outdoor fitness bootcamp at Oxshott

Double Olympic decathlon champion Daley Thompson, CBE, will be the star guest on the opening day of the latest Kate Staples Adventure Bootcamp at Oxshott on Monday (May 12).

Daley, a director of the company headed by former international athlete and TV Gladiator Kate Staples, said: “The bootcamp phenomenon is really taking off and it’s great to see a new group of women starting to get fit with their trainer, David Butler. This really is a great way to get fit – every day is different, so there is no risk of getting bored with the same old routine.”

The Oxshott trainer, David Butler, is a former police physical training instructor, now managing director of London Fitness, which offers corporate and leisure consultancy and runs five Personal Training Centres. David holds numerous fitness and sports training qualifications and set up one of the first personal training gyms in the country.

The Adventure Bootcamp phenomenon was brought to the UK from America by Kate Staples, offering a unique combination of strength, stamina, toning and flexibility training, nutritional advice and motivation.

Bootcamp takes place five mornings a week for one hour and promises that clients will see a reduction in body fat and around the mid-section, an increase in strength and endurance – and it’s not unusual for clients to go down a dress size over a four-week bootcamp.

It’s suitable for anyone who wants to get fit, no matter what level they are when they start. No one is left behind, yet no one is left unchallenged and there’s no need for complicated or expensive equipment – all you need is an exercise mat, a set of dumbbells, a pair of running shoes and a sense of adventure. Best of all, bootcamp is very affordable. Where else could you train with a top personal trainer, elite athlete or former Olympian for £200 for 20 sessions?

The first camp was started at Cobham in Surrey, where Kate puts women through their paces and there are already camps at Guildford, with former Olympic pole vaulter and TV Superstars champion Brian Hooper; Wimbledon, with Olympic judo silver medallist Ray Stevens; Effingham with Welsh judo champion Karine Millington; and East Molesey/Hampton Court with fitness and personal training expert Rob Anderson.

The Oxshott camp takes place at Oxshott Village Sports Club in Steels Lane.

APRIL 2008

Are you fit to face the summer?

Go on the bootcamp adventure and help yourself to a trimmer, fitter and more toned body

Does the thought of throwing off the layers of camouflage and getting into lighter, tighter summer clothes fill you with horror?

Does the prospect of revealing your lumps, bumps and cellulite in a bikini have you dashing for another jumper?

You can’t do anything to stop the summer coming, but it’s not too late to get in shape and help yourself to a body to be proud of.

In just four weeks you could have a fitter, more toned and shapely body thanks to former international athlete and Gladiator Kate Staples and her team.

Kate has brought the Adventure Boot Camp programme to the UK from America and hundreds of women have already benefited from the combination of strength, stamina, toning and flexibility training, nutritional advice and motivational advice.

“Come to boot camp for just one hour a day, for five days a week and you’ll start to see the difference long before the four weeks are over,” says Kate.

And she knows all about the battle for fitness. After being forced to retire from athletics and from Gladiators when a devastating fall left her with her neck broken in two places, she fought her way back to fitness and became a personal trainer, quickly attracting a diary full of celebrity clients.

“When I heard about the Adventure Boot Camp, I went on an intensive training programme in California and became the first, and only, person to bring it to the UK,” she said.

The first camp was at Esher in Surrey and Kate has gathered a glittering team of former Olympic athletes to join the bootcamp phenomenon. Double Olympic decathlon champion Daley Thompson is a director and camps at Guildford and Wimbledon are run by former Olympic pole vaulter and TV Superstars champion Brian Hooper and Olympic judo silver medallist Ray Stevens.

“Adventure bootcamp is all about fun and challenge. Everyone is welcome, no matter what their size or fitness level as long as they are determined to do their best. Most of the training is outside, so you don’t need specialised gym equipment and you will be able to continue the exercises yourself after Boot Camp is over,” says Kate.

“Best of all, it’s very affordable.”

APRIL 2008

Are you fit to face the summer?

New outdoor fitness bootcamps can help you to a trimmer, fitter and more toned body

Two new outdoor bootcamps at East Molesey and Effingham are ready to take women on a fitness adventure which will help them to lose fat, shape and tone up and increase their fitness in just four weeks.

The Adventure Bootcamp phenomenon was brought to the UK by former international athlete and one of the original TV Gladiators, Kate Staples.

Hundreds of women have benefited from bootcamp’s unique combination of strength, stamina, toning and flexibility training, nutritional advice and motivation.

“Come to boot camp for just one hour a day, for five days a week and you’ll start to see the difference long before the four weeks are over,” says Kate. “This is the perfect time of year to start exercising outdoors and by the end of the four weeks you will see a 3-5% reduction in body fat, a 1-3in reduction around your middle, 25% increase in strength and endurance and you could lose between five and 12lb in weight. You don’t need complicated or expensive equipment, just an exercise mat, a set of dumbbells, a pair of running shoes and a sense of adventure.”

The first camp was started at Cobham in Surrey, where Kate puts women through their paces and she has gathered a glittering team of former Olympic athletes to join the bootcamp phenomenon. Double Olympic decathlon champion Daley Thompson is a director and camps at Guildford and Wimbledon are run by former Olympic pole vaulter and TV Superstars champion Brian Hooper and Olympic judo silver medallist Ray Stevens.

The new camps start on April 28 at Effingham Rugby Club and May 12 at East Molesey Cricket Club.

The instructor at the Effingham camp is Welsh judo champion Karine Millington, who has 20 years experience as a fitness instructor. She was a member of the British Judo Squad before a back injury forced her to retire from competition.

Karine has taught in health clubs and sports centres and has helped celebrities including Jason Donovan, Imelda Staunton, Mike Rutherford, Rik Mayall, David Gilmour and Roger Taylor get in shape. She is the founder and director of the 1-to-6 Gym Club and also teaches after school gymnastics.

East Molesey instructor Rob Anderson brings a wealth of fitness and personal training experience to bootcamp. His first passion, during his childhood in Australia, was football and he had teenage trials for top UK clubs. Then he decided to make the UK his home and make health and fitness his career.

After a spell at David Lloyd Leisure he established his own successful personal training business in Cobham and he continues to explore new ideas and techniques to make training more effective and enjoyable. This year he begins a Strength and Conditioning Science degree with the aim of becoming the strength and conditioning coach for a Premiership Football Club. This adds to his already impressive qualifications as a fitness coach, personal trainer, circuits instructor and advanced performance enhancement specialist.

Kate Staples says: “I am so excited to see new Adventure bootcamps opening – and we have several more planned in the coming months. Bootcamp is all about fun and challenge. Everyone is welcome, no matter what their size or fitness level as long as they are determined to do their best.

“Best of all, it’s very affordable. Where else could you train with a top personal trainer, elite athlete or former Olympian for £200 for 20 sessions?”
